A strong quote is the most-read part of any press release. Journalists pull it for their stories, and readers remember it. Here are 30 copy-paste examples organized by type.
The Quote Formula
Every great press release quote has 3 elements: (1) Context, what happened and why it matters, (2) Insight, a perspective only your company can offer, (3) Forward look, what comes next. Keep it to 2-3 sentences maximum.

- Attribution comes after the quote: "Quote here," said [Name], [Title] at [Company].
- Use "said" not "stated," "exclaimed," or "announced"
- Title and company on first mention, last name only on second
- One quote per person (occasionally two for major announcements)
- Present tense for attribution: "said" not "says"

How many quotes should a typical press release include?
Common Quote Mistakes to Avoid
Too corporate: "We are thrilled to announce our synergistic partnership that maximizes our combined capabilities." Nobody talks like this.
Too vague: "We're excited about the future." This says nothing. What specifically are you excited about?
Too long: If your quote is more than 3 sentences, cut it. Journalists won't use a paragraph-long quote.
Not quotable: The quote should sound like something a human would actually say. Read it out loud, and if it sounds robotic, rewrite it.
Missing the "so what": Every quote should answer why anyone should care.
Tips for Writing Authentic Quotes
If you're working with a lean team, our small business PR strategies guide covers how to write and distribute press materials without a dedicated PR department.
- Write it as if you're explaining to a friend, then clean up the grammar
- Include one specific number or detail, specificity builds credibility
- Lead with the insight, not the announcement, the press release body covers the facts
- Make it usable by journalists, they should be able to drop it into their article as-is
- Keep attribution short, full name + title + company on first mention
What makes a press release quote 'quotable' for journalists?
FAQ
How many quotes should a press release have? One or two. More than two dilutes the message. Use one from your company and one from a partner, investor, or customer.
Who should be quoted in a press release? The most senior person relevant to the announcement: CEO for company-wide news, VP of Product for launches, CTO for technical announcements.
Can I write quotes for the person being quoted? Yes, this is standard practice in PR. Write the quote, then get approval from the person being quoted.
Should press release quotes be in first or third person? First person in the quote itself ("We built this because..."), third person in the attribution ("said Jane Smith, CEO").
How long should a press release quote be? 2-3 sentences maximum. One sentence is fine for simple announcements.
