How to Pin a Post on Facebook: Profiles, Pages, and Groups (2026)
Quick answer: Open the post, click the three dots (...) in its top right corner, and choose the pin option for where you are:
- Personal profile: select Pin post (labeled Pin to your profile in some app versions). The post jumps to the top of your profile with a Pinned label.
- Facebook Page: select Pin to top of Page (some versions say Pin post). You must be a Page admin or editor.
- Facebook group: select Mark as announcement (shown as Feature post in newer layouts). Admins and moderators only.
You can keep one pinned post at a time on a profile or a Page. Groups let you keep several announcements at once.
A note on wording: Facebook renamed most Timeline labels to Profile and retired the classic Pages layout in favor of the New Pages Experience. If a guide tells you to use a Settings gear or a Timeline menu to pin, it is out of date. Everything below uses the current three-dots menu.

What pinning a post actually does
Pinning locks one post to the top of a profile, Page, or group so it is the first thing visitors see. It stays there no matter how many new posts you publish afterward, until you unpin it or pin a different one. A pinned post shows a small pin icon and a Pinned label.
What pinning does NOT do:
- It does not push the post into other people's News Feeds. Pinning only reorders your own profile, Page, or group.
- It does not change the audience. The post keeps the same privacy setting it had.
- It does not change the publish date, and it keeps its existing likes, comments, and shares.
- It does not notify your followers.
How to pin a post on your personal profile
Yes, you can now pin a post to your personal profile. This used to be a Pages-only feature, which is why many older guides still say profiles cannot pin. That is no longer true.
On desktop (facebook.com):
- Go to your profile and find one of your own posts.
- Click the three dots (...) in the top right corner of the post.
- Select Pin post (some versions read Pin to your profile).
- The post moves to the top of your profile with a Pinned label.
On the Facebook app (iPhone/Android):
- Open your profile in the app and scroll to your post.
- Tap the three dots (...) on the post.
- Tap Pin post.
You can pin only your own posts, and only one at a time. Pinning a second post automatically unpins the first.

How to pin a post on a Facebook Page
Under the New Pages Experience, manage your Page while switched into your Page profile, or from Meta Business Suite. The steps are the same as a personal profile, with slightly different wording.
On desktop:
- Switch into your Page and open the post you want at the top.
- Click the three dots (...) in the top right corner of the post.
- Select Pin to top of Page (some versions say Pin post).
- The post moves to the top of your Page feed with a pin icon.
On the Facebook app:
- Open your Page in the app and find the post.
- Tap the three dots (...).
- Tap Pin to top of Page.
Requirements: you must be a Page admin or editor. Regular followers cannot pin.
Limit: one pinned post at a time. Pinning a new post unpins the previous one automatically.
If you manage more than one Page, add or confirm your admin access first, or create the Page before you try to pin.
Pin vs feature: the difference most guides miss
This trips people up because Facebook uses both words, and they do different things.
- Pinning sets the position of a single post. It puts that one post at the top of the profile, Page, or group feed. Only one pinned post exists at a time on a profile or Page.
- Featuring is a separate highlight area. On a personal profile, the Featured section sits near the top of your profile and can hold several items you want to showcase, such as favorite photos or posts. Adding something to Featured does not move it to the top of your feed, and it does not replace your pinned post.
So a profile can show both a pinned post at the top of the feed and a Featured section above it. To add a post to Featured, open the post's three dots (...) menu and choose Add to featured (or manage the section directly from your profile). In groups, the newer layouts also label the announcement action Feature post, which is why the wording overlaps.
Rule of thumb: use Pin when you want one post to lead your feed. Use Featured when you want a small showcase of highlights that stays put regardless of what you pin.
How to pin a post in a Facebook group
Groups do not use the word "pin." The equivalent is announcements.
On desktop and mobile:
- Find the post in the group, or create a new one.
- Click or tap the three dots (...) on the post.
- Select Mark as announcement (shown as Feature post in some newer group layouts).
- The post moves to the announcements area at the top of the group.
How groups differ from Pages and profiles:
- Only group admins and moderators can mark announcements.
- A group can hold several announcements at once, unlike a profile or Page, which allow just one pinned post.
- Any post in the group can be marked, including posts from regular members.
Announcements are a good fit for group rules, pinned resources, or recurring events. For related group management, see how to convert a Facebook group to a Page.
How to unpin a post on Facebook
On a personal profile:
- Go to the pinned post at the top of your profile.
- Click the three dots (...).
- Select Unpin post.
On a Facebook Page:
- Open the pinned post at the top of your Page.
- Click the three dots (...).
- Select Unpin from top of Page.
In a Facebook group:
- Open the announcement.
- Click the three dots (...).
- Select Remove from announcements (or Unmark as announcement).
In every case the post returns to its normal chronological position. Nothing is deleted.
How many posts can you pin
On a profile or Page, pinning a new post automatically unpins the current one. In a group, several announcements can stay active at the same time.
How to pin a comment on Facebook
Pinning a comment is separate from pinning a post. It moves one comment to the top of a post's comment section.
- Find the comment under your post.
- Click the three dots (...) next to the comment.
- Select Pin comment.
This works on posts on your Page, posts in groups you manage, and your own profile posts. Only the post author or a Page or group admin can pin comments. To unpin, open the same menu and choose Unpin comment.
If your comments are not appearing at all, that is a different issue. See why Facebook comments are not showing.
Troubleshooting: why can't I pin my post
The pin option is missing
- On a Page, make sure you are viewing the post while switched into your Page, not your personal account.
- Confirm you have admin or editor access on the Page, or admin/moderator access in the group.
- Update the Facebook app, or try the desktop site at facebook.com.
The pin option is grayed out
- You can only pin your own posts (or your Page's or group's posts). You cannot pin a stranger's post to your feed.
- The post may be restricted or hidden by Facebook.
Your pinned post disappeared
- Another admin may have pinned a different post. Since only one pin is allowed on a Page or profile, the new pin replaced yours.
- Check that you are looking at the profile, Page, or group feed, not the News Feed.
Facebook Lite
- Facebook Lite supports pinning on Pages and groups from the same three-dots menu. If the option does not appear, use the full app or the desktop site.

Frequently asked questions
What does pinning a post on Facebook do?
Pinning locks one post to the top of your profile, Page, or group so it is the first thing visitors see. It stays there until you unpin it or pin a different post, and it shows a pin icon and a Pinned label. Pinning only reorders your own feed. It does not push the post into other people's News Feeds, change the audience, or move the publish date.
Can you pin a post on a personal Facebook profile?
Yes. Facebook now lets you pin a post to your personal profile. Open one of your own posts, click the three dots in the top right corner, and select Pin post (labeled Pin to your profile in some app versions). The post moves to the top of your profile with a Pinned label. Older guides that say profiles cannot pin are out of date. You can pin only one post at a time.
How many posts can you pin on Facebook?
On a personal profile or a Facebook Page you can pin one post at a time. Pinning a new post automatically unpins the previous one. Facebook groups are different: they use announcements instead of pins, and a group can keep several announcements active at the same time.
What is the difference between pinning and featuring a post on Facebook?
Pinning sets the position of a single post, moving it to the top of your feed, with only one pinned post allowed at a time on a profile or Page. Featuring is a separate highlight section on your profile that can hold several items you want to showcase, such as photos or posts. Adding something to Featured does not move it to the top of your feed and does not replace your pinned post.
How do you pin a post in a Facebook group?
Groups use announcements rather than pins. Click the three dots on any post in the group and select Mark as announcement (shown as Feature post in some newer layouts). The post moves to the announcements area at the top of the group. Only admins and moderators can do this, and a group can hold several announcements at once.
How do you unpin a post on Facebook?
Go to the pinned post, click the three dots, and choose Unpin post on a profile, or Unpin from top of Page on a Page. In a group, open the announcement's three dots and select Remove from announcements. The post returns to its normal chronological position and nothing is deleted.
Can you pin a comment on Facebook?
Yes. Click the three dots next to a comment and select Pin comment to move it to the top of the comment section. This works on your Page posts, posts in groups you manage, and your own profile posts. Only the post author or a Page or group admin can pin comments. Use Unpin comment from the same menu to reverse it.
Why can't I pin my Facebook post?
Common reasons: on a Page you are viewing the post from your personal account instead of your Page, you lack admin or editor access, the app needs updating, or you are trying to pin a post you do not own. The option is also grayed out for posts you do not control. Switch into your Page or group, confirm your role, and try the desktop site at facebook.com.
