How to Schedule Tweets on Mobile: What Actually Works in 2026

Short answer: no, you cannot schedule a post inside the official X app on iPhone or Android. The composer in the mobile app has no schedule button. It has a draft feature, and a draft is not a scheduled post, it still needs you to open the app and tap Post.

Three things actually work from a phone:

1. Open x.com in your mobile browser and turn on "Request Desktop Site." That loads the same web composer you get on a laptop, including the schedule control. It costs nothing.
2. Use a third party scheduler that has a real mobile app. Buffer and Hootsuite both do. Later does not, because Later no longer supports X at all.
3. X Pro, the tool that used to be TweetDeck. This is no longer the free option that most guides still describe. Since March 2026 it sits behind X's top Premium+ tier.

The Four Routes Compared

Most "schedule tweets on mobile" articles are really a list of scheduler prices. That does not answer the question, because the question is whether a given route works on a screen you are holding in one hand. This table is that answer.

Method 1: Mobile Browser With Desktop Site Requested

This is the only way to reach X's own scheduler from a phone without paying anyone, and it is the method we would use.

On iPhone (Safari):

1. Open Safari and go to x.com, then sign in.
2. Tap the aA icon at the left of the address bar.
3. Choose Request Desktop Website.
4. Start a new post. The desktop composer loads, with the schedule control next to the media buttons.
5. Write the post, set the date and time, and confirm.

On Android (Chrome):

1. Open Chrome and go to x.com, then sign in.
2. Tap the three dot menu at the top right.
3. Tick Desktop site.
4. Compose your post and use the schedule control before posting.

Two practical notes. The desktop layout is genuinely cramped on a phone, so expect pinch zooming when you pick a time. And check the time zone the composer is using before you confirm, because it follows the browser, not your X settings.

Method 2: A Third Party Scheduler App

If you schedule regularly from a phone, a purpose built app beats fighting a desktop layout. Two caveats matter more than price: the tool must still support X, and it must have an actual iOS and Android app rather than a responsive website.

Buffer. Buffer's own pricing page lists a free plan of "Connect up to 3 channels" with "10 scheduled posts per channel - refill anytime." Paid starts at the Essentials plan, shown as "$5 /month" per channel when billed annually, described on the same page as "1 channel, $60 billed yearly." On monthly billing that channel rate is $6. Buffer counts each connected profile as a separate channel, so an X account plus an Instagram account is two channels, not one.

Hootsuite. There is no free plan. Hootsuite's plans page states "Paid plans start at $99 for a Standard plan, $199 for a Professional plan, and range up to $399 for an Advanced plan," with Standard listed as "Manage up to 10 social media accounts." Prices are per user per month.

Later. Skip it for this job. Later's pricing page lists the platforms it supports as "Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat." X is not on that list. Any guide still telling you to schedule tweets with Later is out of date.

Method 3: X Pro Is Now Premium Only

This is the single most out of date claim in older guides, including an earlier version of this page, which told readers X Pro was "completely free, unlimited scheduling." That is no longer true.

X Pro is the product formerly called TweetDeck. It was free before 2023, then included with the standard X Premium subscription. On 26 March 2026 X moved it again. Engadget reported that X Pro "has been removed as a benefit of the social network's Premium subscription. It is now only part of the Premium+ tier, which costs $40 a month." Multiple outlets reported the change happened mid billing cycle with no advance notice.

So X Pro is not a free mobile scheduling route, and for most people scheduling a handful of posts a week it is the most expensive option on this page. It is also a multi column dashboard designed for a wide monitor, which is a poor fit for a phone even when you can load it.

Method 4: Drafts in the X App

Drafts are the only scheduling adjacent feature the mobile app has. They do not post themselves, but they are useful for writing on the move and publishing deliberately later.

1. Open the X app and tap the compose button.
2. Write the post and attach any media.
3. Tap the back arrow or Cancel, then choose Save Draft.
4. To publish, tap compose, open Drafts, pick the post, and tap Post.

Use drafts for anything time sensitive or reactive, where a post scheduled three days ago could land badly. What We Could Not Verify

Several numbers circulate widely in guides on this topic, and we could not confirm any of them in X's own documentation. X's help centre blocks automated access, and the developer documentation at docs.x.com has no scheduling section at all, so we have removed these rather than repeat them:

• A maximum number of posts you can have scheduled at once.
• A maximum distance into the future you can schedule.
• A minimum gap required between two scheduled posts.

If X publishes these limits somewhere we can read, we will add them with the source. Until then, the honest position is that the composer will tell you if it refuses a time, and that is the only limit you can rely on.

The same applies to "best time to post" figures. We have not included any here, because the useful answer comes from your own account's analytics, not from a generic hour.
