Connect SocialRails to Claude

Add SocialRails to the Claude app in a few minutes, then schedule posts, pick photos and manage every client just by asking.

Connect SocialRails to Claude once, and you can run your social media from a conversation. Ask Claude to write a post, find a photo, and schedule it for Thursday at 9am on a client's LinkedIn page, and it does it in your SocialRails workspace.

It works in Claude in the browser (claude.ai), the Claude desktop app and the Claude mobile apps. Set it up once and it is available everywhere you use Claude.

What you can ask

Schedule a LinkedIn post for Pine Ridge Lodge tomorrow at 9am announcing our winter hours, with a photo of snowy mountains.

Write three Instagram posts for Acme Coffee about the new fall menu, with cozy coffee photos, and save them as drafts.

What is going out for Harbor Bakery next week?

Move Friday's Facebook post for Acme Coffee to Saturday at 10am.

Post this to both Acme pages on LinkedIn and to our Pinterest board "Fall Menu".

Claude checks which accounts and pages are connected, finds a free stock photo on Pexels if you want one, shows you the options, and creates the post. Before it changes anything, the Claude app asks you to approve the action, so nothing is posted without you seeing it first.

Before you start

  • A SocialRails Creator, Business or Agency plan. API access is not available during the free trial.
  • A Claude account. Free Claude accounts can add one custom connector. On Claude Team and Enterprise, an owner or admin adds connectors for the organization.

Step 1: Create a key in SocialRails

  1. In SocialRails, go to Settings > API and click Create Key.
  2. Name it something like Claude.
  3. Tick Read and Write. Tick AI only if you want Claude to use SocialRails AI to write copy (Claude can write posts itself without it).
  4. If you manage several clients in separate workspaces, turn on All my workspaces. One connection then covers every client.
  5. Click Create Key and copy the key. It starts with sr_live_ and is only shown once.

Step 2: Add SocialRails to Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it SocialRails and paste this server URL:
https://socialrails.com/api/v1/mcp
  1. Click Continue.
  2. Under Authentication, choose No sign-in. Claude may pre-select "Sign in now" and warn that No sign-in will not connect. Choose No sign-in anyway: SocialRails uses your key, not a sign-in screen.
  3. Under Request headers, click Add header. Choose authorization as the name, and for the value type Bearer, a space, then paste your key:
Bearer sr_live_your_key_here
  1. Click Add.

Claude shows the SocialRails tools once it connects. You can set each tool to run without asking, or keep Needs approval so you confirm every action. Keeping approval on for creating, editing and deleting posts is a sensible start.

Step 3: Try it

Open a new chat and ask:

List my SocialRails workspaces and connected accounts.

Then try a draft, which never publishes:

Create a draft LinkedIn post about our opening hours, with a stock photo of a coffee shop. Draft only.

You will find the draft in your SocialRails calendar, where you can check it and schedule it.

Managing several clients

SocialRails supports both ways agencies organise clients, and Claude handles each.

Each client in its own workspace. Create your key with All my workspaces on. Mention the client by name ("for Acme Coffee") and Claude works in that workspace. If it is not clear which client you mean, Claude asks rather than guessing.

Several client pages under one login. One LinkedIn or Facebook login often manages many company pages. Name the page ("on the Pine Ridge Lodge LinkedIn page") and Claude posts there. Ask "which LinkedIn pages can I post to?" to see the list. If you do not name a page, the post goes to the workspace's default page, set in your SocialRails settings.

You can combine both: several workspaces, each with several pages.

Photos and videos

  • Stock photos. Ask for a photo and Claude searches free Pexels images, shows you options, and attaches the one you pick. They come sized for posting, in portrait for Instagram and landscape for LinkedIn and Facebook.
  • Your own photos and videos. Claude cannot pass a file you drop into the chat on to SocialRails. Share it as a direct link instead: a Dropbox link works (change the end of the link to ?dl=1), as does any public link that opens the file itself. Google Drive share links do not work, because they open a web page rather than the file. For those, upload the file in the SocialRails dashboard.
  • Limits. Images up to 10MB (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP), MP4 videos up to 100MB, and PDFs up to 100MB for LinkedIn document carousels.

If something goes wrong

"Couldn't connect to the server". The key or the header is usually the problem. Check the key is still active in Settings > API, and that the header name is authorization and the value is Bearer followed by the key. If you need to change the header, remove the connector and add it again, because Claude does not let you edit a saved header.

Claude posts to the wrong page or profile. Name the page in your request. Ask Claude which pages it can see to check the exact names.

"API access is not available on your plan". API access starts on the Creator plan.

A platform needs reconnecting. When a social account's login expires, Claude tells you. Reconnect it in SocialRails under Settings, then try again.

For developers

The connector is the SocialRails MCP server, which speaks the Model Context Protocol over HTTP. It works with any MCP client that can send a custom header, including Claude Code. See MCP Server Setup for other clients and the MCP Tools Reference for every tool and argument.
