One rule to know first: a Page can only have one action button at a time, so the choice matters more than the setup.

How to Add a CTA Button to Your Page

Step 1: Open your Page

  1. Log into Facebook and switch into your Page
  2. Go to the Page's profile view

Step 2: Open the action button control

Under the New Pages Experience this is no longer a "+ Add a Button" link sitting below the cover photo. Instead:

  1. Click the three-dot menu under your Page's cover image
  2. Choose Edit action button
  3. If a button already exists, the same menu is where you change it

Older guides still describe the classic flow. If you are looking for an "Add a Button" link and cannot find one, your Page is on the new experience and the three-dot menu is where it moved.

Step 3: Select Button Type

  1. Browse button categories:

    • Book services
    • Contact you
    • Learn more about your business
    • Shop with you
    • Download or use your app
  2. Select the specific button that fits your goal

Step 4: Configure the Destination

Depending on the button type:

For website links:

  • Enter your destination URL
  • Use a dedicated landing page, not just homepage

For Call Now:

  • Enter your business phone number

For Send Message:

  • Button automatically opens Messenger

For Book Now:

  • Connect a booking service (Calendly, Acuity, etc.)
  • Or link to your booking page

Step 5: Save and Test

  1. Click "Save"
  2. View your Page as a visitor
  3. Click the button to verify it works

Best Practices for CTA Buttons

Page CTA Button

1. Match the button to your primary goal

Pick the ONE action you want most. If you want calls, use "Call Now", not "Learn More."

2. Use a dedicated landing page

Don't send "Shop Now" clicks to your homepage. Send them directly to your store.

3. Track button performance

Check Page Insights โ†’ Actions on Page โ†’ Button Clicks

4. Test different buttons

Change your CTA button monthly and compare performance.

Post and Ad CTA Buttons

1. Align CTA with post content

If your post is about a product, use "Shop Now", not "Learn More."

2. Keep the journey consistent

CTA button should match:

  • Post/ad copy
  • Image/video message
  • Landing page content

3. Consider mobile experience

Most clicks come from mobile devices. Test your destination on phones.

4. Use urgency when appropriate

CTAs like "Get Offer" and "Shop Now" work better with limited-time messaging.

Common CTA Button Mistakes

Mistake 1: Wrong Button for Your Goal

Problem: Using "Learn More" when you want purchases.

Fix: Be specific. "Shop Now" for sales. "Book Now" for appointments.

Mistake 2: Broken or Slow Destinations

Problem: CTA links to 404 page or slow website.

Fix: Test your links regularly. Check on mobile.

Mistake 3: Not Tracking Performance

Problem: No idea if button works.

Fix: Check Insights weekly. Set up conversion tracking for ads.

Mistake 4: Generic Landing Pages

Problem: "Shop Now" leads to homepage, not product.

Fix: Create specific landing pages that match CTA intent.

Mistake 5: Never Changing the Button

Problem: Same button for years without testing.

Fix: Test new buttons quarterly. Compare performance.

FAQ

How do I add a CTA button to my Facebook Page?
Switch into your Page, click the three-dot menu under the cover image, and choose Edit action button. Under the New Pages Experience there is no longer a separate 'Add a Button' link below the cover photo, which is why older guides send you looking for something that is not there.
How many CTA buttons can a Facebook Page have?
One. A Page has a single action button at a time, so you have to decide which one action matters most rather than covering several. If you want people to book, choose Book Now rather than a vaguer Learn More that makes them hunt for the booking page.
Which Facebook CTA button should I use?
Match it to the single action that makes you money. Service businesses generally want Book Now or Get Quote, ecommerce wants Shop Now, restaurants want Order Food or Reserve, and local businesses that take enquiries by phone want Call Now. Learn More is the safest choice and usually the weakest one.
Why is my Facebook CTA button not showing?
The usual causes are that the Page is new or incomplete, that the destination link was rejected, or that you are looking at the Page as a visitor on mobile where the button appears in a different position. Check it while signed out on both mobile and desktop before assuming it failed to save.
Can I add CTA buttons to individual Facebook posts?
On organic posts your options are limited, but boosted posts and ads let you attach a proper call-to-action button and choose its destination. That is one of the practical differences between an organic post and a boosted one.
Do Facebook CTA buttons actually increase conversions?
A relevant button that leads somewhere useful removes a step, and removing steps helps. It will not rescue a weak destination, though. If people click but do not convert, the button is working and the landing page is the problem, so check it loads quickly on a phone.
How do I track clicks on my Facebook Page button?
Page insights report action button clicks, and for anything beyond a simple count you should add UTM parameters to the destination URL so the traffic shows up properly in your analytics. Without UTMs the visits usually land in a generic social or referral bucket.
Can I change my Facebook CTA button later?
Yes, as often as you like, through the same three-dot menu and Edit action button. It is worth changing seasonally, for example switching a restaurant from Reserve to Order Food when demand shifts, since the button is one of the few Page elements you can test cheaply.
